‘Knock’ came the sound upon his door-
On Winston’s cottage on the seashore.
Stood there with a book, and turning a page,
A grievously dressed Royal Mage.
“Be you the Winston who prophesized
The event of the Great King George’s demise?”
Sensing what was coming with the tide,
The wise old Winston promptly denied
Will so evil as George’s fate,
Having never even cursed a shipping crate!
“Alas then, my friend, thou shalt not receive
The gift of pride Old Winston did perceive
And request His Majesty to bestow
Him with it, so he may go.
George sent me with that golden case,
Ordering me to show my face
At the door of the Winston concerned,
For the prophecy he made took a special turn!
T’was not King George who was destined to die,
But the nobleman who did the curse cry,
For the Royal Mage did learn
That old forgotten knowledge could him earn
The riches of Egypt’s King Tut,
If he prophesized against that mangy mutt,
Who sent George scurrying to the Church
To lay his grave under an old Birch.
Says he- ‘The fool musn’t live!
But for the remnant, this you may him give!’
Hence I am here to present to you
The present of Walter, the Imperial Duke,
Aside from that of King George (three),
And the sarcophagus of Nefertitti!
Goodbye Winston, I know you well,
For I did see you ring the Royal Doorbell.”
Away went the Mage down the shore,
A hole in Winston’s heart he did bore.
But not of fear for his life’s loss,
But the regal stupidity of his nation’s boss,
Who knows not that the Queen- His wife-
Is waiting for him with a royal kitchen knife!
Away with his head- she would do,
And stew it and then barbeque!
Winston laughed at the thought of this-
The death of a King he wouldn’t miss,
More so because of the wealth endowed
Upon him by the King and his voice- so loud.
Day passed and moonlit night arose
Even as Old Winston did already doze.
Away! went the twinkle of his old eye;
His mouth lost speech without a single cry.
Lay there his body for all age,
His wealth retaken by the Royal Mage!
