A Tirade against Stupidity

Oh Stupidity, wherefore dost thou tempt
The passions of lesser folk
And bidst them do your dirty work,
Inflame their minds with delusions thus,
Ensnare their senses, win their trust,
Buy their minds, kill their brains,
Establish an unyielding, constant reign
In which you continue forever more
To lead people astray, off the shore
And into the sea of darkness where
You and I both know they would drown,
All in the name of your evil desires?

Thy mission, it would seem, is to rid the world,
Of all its knowledge, and thus herald
The arrival of timeless ignorance,
In all disgusting glory and munificence.
Thy spite is drowned in thy grace,
Thine intelligence masked by thy face.
People think you would give them peace
“Ignorance is bliss,” they repeat,
Knowing not what the phrase means.

You stir their baser emotions to violence,
Lead them to where Destruction lies dormant,
Poison their thoughts—death is imminent.
You importune them to draw attention
To themselves, betray abstention,
Regard the world through fiery eyes,
And yet not consider what lies
Beyond their actions, what awaits
Them, what kind of ill fate.

But thou, thou know’st all despite what
Thy name would suggest.
Thou see’st all, and yet,
You use these simple men to exact
Your revenge against the world,
And that is that.
