Life should be lived as one chooses,
And not
As someone else chooses for them,
Even if one loses
In the end,
And is stuck forever in that particular bend
In life’s road,
Unable to go any further,
Unable to retrace one’s steps,
In need of help.
Just as the sapling needs nurturing
While it grows,
So do infants need to be cared for,
Until they know
What’s best for them,
Until they choose,
What they want to do
With the life that was so invidiously
Imposed upon them,
For whether they win or lose,
It’s they
Who shall reap the reward,
Or rot in the end.
At that point, all help must die,
Be buried with the dead past,
And rot with time.
To a sentient being with intelligence,
His own intelligence
Is his guiding light,
The only tool he is equipped with
To fight
Fate and the like,
To live life well and wholly,
And die peacefully
With the thought
That the life he has lived,
He himself has brought.
But sometimes it so happens,
That people who mean well,
Become blinded by their ego,
And continue to sell
Their unneeded help
In heaps,
And incapacitate all means
For the receiving party to live
Life the way it wants to,
And give them the misimpression
That problems exist for help,
And not the other way around.
Independence is a desideratum,
A concept that only some
People are lucky enough to get.
Yet,
In a life such as mine,
I see no sign
Of becoming free from the net
Of some people’s insidious help.
Well,
It’s better to starve than to beg,
They say.
My day is made.
Off I shall go where none can find me,
The net shall be empty,
And I shall be free
At long last.
