It isn't in the least unnatural in India to see a car barreling toward you from the wrong side of the road. At the same time however, such drivers are subjected to intense opprobrium in several of the many languages in popular use in India, and the linguistic creativity used in their contemptuous swearing is something worth beholding, for it isn't merely one's maternal roots that are touched in their curses, but a wide variety of would-be sins that are covered, including wearing clothes of whatever particular color or one's hairdo, or perhaps even one's very existence. Mind you, Indians can be excessively colorful when they swear. Especially if they have meager knowledge of the English language. A respectable speaker of English, such as I, would have more often than not come across wannabe gangsters who think speaking in Hindi is a sign of one's superiority and it sounds, if I may, 'cool'. But it pains me to break it to them that speaking in Hindi when one's intentions are punk is absolutely self-deprecation. They say Hindi's the national language, but they're also fairly aware how much South Indians hate the language. The former Chief Minister of the state of Tamil Nadu had once remarked that "Hindi is the Indian national language only because of its abundance in speech. In that case, rats should be made the national animal for the same reason in their existence." Although I thoroughly disapprove of this seemingly witty remark and disdain it to the core, I have to hand it to this man's audacity. The funniest thing is that nobody even speaks pure Hindi anymore. What I'd written two posts earlier was more or less pure, but what is in common verbal usage nowadays is a monstrous amalgamation of Hindi and English that is deemed cool by the preponderance of the populace of this country. What people don't understand is that amongst their little 'Hinglish' communities and cliques they may be regarded as cool or hype, but in reality, they are ridiculed. Heck, if it weren't for 'Hinglish' most of the Western comedians we see nowadays would go bankrupt. Russel Peters' comical spectrum would be halved. Humor would be stolen away from the lives of those debonair Caucasians. Hey, am I contradicting myself? Forgive me. So what was I talking about again? Oh yeah, lawlessness. Have you ever seen an Indian road? Mark my words, if you've seen a single Indian road without traffic jams at any point of time during the day you are truly gifted. Or just blind. Los Angeles has traffic jams. But do you know what the difference is between traffic jams in India and LA? In LA, even in the most severe traffic jams, people stick to their respective lanes. In India, ask a man what the purpose of lanes are and he'll say to decorate the road. Indian drivers fight for every inch of road-space and if you look at them from a satellite camera or whatever they'll look like enormous colonies of static ants. And, surprise, surprise, the situation is just about to get better! Like I had said once before, that Tata motors group intends on releasing the world's cheapest car, which costs just about a hundred-thousand rupees. These people are either magnanimously philanthropic or diabolically misanthropic. I'm honestly surprised how ignorant they are of the traffic conditions in India. It's like they don't know India. Nothing can be done now except die in hell when the time comes, for the 'project' has been affirmed. In conclusion to this rant I would like to bring into light the unwholesome Indo-US nuclear deal. The United States has just declared that the deal's canceled if India attempts a test. Don't know what that means but it does not bode well for the present Government that had to literally fight its way back to power just a month or two back during the much-debated trust vote. And I'm torn between the United States and India so I've taken the wise decision to not opine on this particular nuclear deal that George Bush and his eccentricities conjured.
