life updates

The fact that my computer broke down for no apparent reason a couple of days ago inconvenienced me greatly, since there were a lot of things I wanted to do that I couldn’t do as a result. I don’t think I should be so bitter, especially since the newly repaired computer that I got (with a freshly installed OS and IE 8 instead of the glitch-ridden 7), is really good. A lot of things have happened in the past week (I’m struggling to remember), which for the sake of the records, as always, need to be written down over here.

First off, the Deccan Chargers—the representative team of this city in the IPL thing—pulled off an impressive victory in the entire IPL tournament, which was even more impressive because in last year’s season they were in the 8th position: the very bottom. Not to mention that the team is exactly the same as it was last year. Under Adam Gilchrist’s captainship, the Deccan Chargers not only defeated the seemingly unbeatable Delhi Daredevils in the semifinals—by a very large margin—but also beat the Bangalore Royal Challengers, who also beat a seemingly unbeatable team—viz. the Chennai Super Kings—on the other side of the semifinal thing—for lack of a more appropriate word/phrase. I mean I’m still not a fan of cricket or anything—far from it in fact, and the contingency of becoming one in the near or distant future is irrefutably remote—but it’s always cool when the losers win. Stupid paradox, but that’s the only way to cut a long story short.

Because I undoubtedly won’t have much time to spare for things like my life when school starts on the first, I met up with my friends twice this week—once at my house and once at this other guy’s. On the latter occasion we watched this movie called Saw 2, which I shouldn’t be calling ‘this movie’, since a lot of people have doubtless heard of it, it being a total debacle and all that—an insult to all self-respecting people and the status quo. I don’t know if I should have watched Saw first or not, but the movie struck me as having nothing resembling a central idea. It revolved around the life and escapades of a poorly characterized psychopath, who was, on some idiotic whim of the brainless cops involved in the case, kept alive—something that should be discouraged, especially when the suspect freely admits to being the killer and when all evidence supports this. Anyway, this weirdo cop’s weirdass son was sorta kidnapped, and along with a hoard of other convicts, woke up in this weird room-like-thing in this old house that looked like it barely survived an atomic explosion. One pointless event led to another and in the end the son and this maniacal girl were all that was left of this group thing, and in the end, the fatheaded father of this son was the one in the trap while the son was found safe inside a safe. The father is awaiting death as the movie ends. In a lame attempt at making something akin to a twist, the moviemakers made a fool of themselves. Along with The Hills Have Eyes, I would say that the Saw series is something no self-respecting human should watch. There was nothing remotely scary in it—just senseless gore and morbidity that could only be cooked up by a mind as perverse as that of a serial killer with Down’s syndrome—and the only thrill I got was when the credits started rolling in, and that was the only part of the movie that made the slightest bit of sense.

Yesterday I also went to the ophthalmologist for a general eye checkup, to see if my myopia worsened or anything, in a manner of speaking, and thankfully, my eyes are the same as they were before. I mean my eyes are bad enough already—I wouldn’t want an increase in lens power. And I also don’t want to change my glasses. I’m very fond of the ones I have (and am wearing) right now, and I don’t want to change them—or even get the lenses replaced for that matter. I’m happy with a – 7 in one eye and a – 6. something in the other.

Bleach 358 was the only ray of hope for the past 20 chapters (or more). Hitsugaya appears to be a lot stronger than he was initially believed to be, and it doesn’t appear as though Halibel is going to be able to kick his bratty ass with too much ease. As for Soifon, she’s seriously in a lot of trouble. Why the heck doesn’t she release her Zanpakuto? I’m dying to see the unrevealed Bankai release of some of the Soul Reapers: like Soifon, Kyoraku, Ukitake, Unohana, and on the dark side Aizen and Gin. Kubo seriously has to work on this stuff. I don’t think I’ll be able to stand the insidious suspense much longer.
