apps, et cetera

So while the UC application was managed, I still have six applications to finish in less than a month, including three that require alumni interviews – MIT, Princeton, and Carnegie Mellon. The Princeton and University of Washington applications are due on the 15th, and the former is draining the life out of me with its essays. I have to write a total of five essays in the next eleven days, without compromising on quality in any way whatsoever, and just the thought of how much work I have before me is preventing me from getting anything done at all. To make the stress worse, the 15th is also when Stanford will inform me of its decision. With admission statistics like Stanford’s, no one can be sure if they will be admitted.

I had a bad cold today, bordering on fever, so I couldn’t focus on anything. I finished Kinematics from the Archive to assuage the sickening feeling I had had of not getting anything done, and spent the afternoon reading Macbeth, because I couldn’t think or progress with the Princeton essays, and learned that the song the choir sings at the start of the third Harry Potter movie is actually the witches’ song from the play: “Double, double, toil and trouble…”

Just for future reference, Fairy Tail will stop airing from Tuesday, because the anime ran out of episodes. Well, there’s still the manga, and it’s an ongoing series, so there will still be updates to look forward to, right? Fairy Tail, despite the name, is really an interesting series, especially if you have the same inexplicable inclinations as I do for the fantasy genre. The characters are well-rounded, and the fights and events are satisfying. The almost complete absence of angst is what makes it so refreshing. I’ve been exposed to all the Trinity Blood and Bleach angst for so long that I feel stifled. Even Slam Dunk is kind of angsty because Ryonan didn’t make it to the Nationals. So Fairy Tail is refreshing in this respect.

And speaking of Bleach, Tite Kubo is now resorting to morbidity to try and salvage his vanishing fan base. The last picture of Uryu wasn’t disturbing, twisted, and gross per se, but still quite nauseating. Ichigo’s become a complete and total pain and is no longer likable in any way. I mean, earlier, he was sarcastic and all that, and that was a sauce to his good wit, as it were, but now he’s just a stuck-up, affectedly apathetic asshole. The only thing I’m looking forward to now, as far as Bleach is concerned, is the possible appearance of Ulquiorra in the special Hell Arc thing – if it has a continuation at all, that is.
