I finished one out of three Princeton University essays. Hooray, hooray, and all that. It came out almost perfectly for a first draft, as my counselor in Seattle said, and thank goodness for that, or I would have been stuck with that essay until the end of the month, when it would have ceased to be of any consequence. The problem now is that the other two are as confusing as essay prompts come. It’s really easy to come up with a favorite quotation from a book you read in the last three years, but when you’re asked to demonstrate how you were inspired by it, and how it’s affected your life, things start to appear different. I’m hung up on the idea of using a Shakespearean quotation, which would have been perfect, if it weren’t for the fact that I haven’t been “inspired” by any of them into bringing drastic changes into my lifestyle. Ayn Rand might sound too cultish or didactic or abstruse, or a combination of all three, while with PG Wodehouse, you would only be asking for it. I can’t get that line out of my head: “Neither a borrower nor a lender be, for loan oft loses both itself and friend, and borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry,” but I have borrowed and lent money before, if only to a select few people. Besides, I don’t think resolving not to be a borrower or a lender would qualify as bringing mature, inspired changes into your life. Gosh, I’m so desperate right now, I’m even willing to quote from a self-help book. Ideas will be greatly appreciated.
For future reference, (because that’s how I started the topic in my previous entry – consciously, and precisely because it made no sense in that context) Fairy Tail has stopped airing – all because they couldn’t wait long enough for the whole series to be made into episodes. They’re probably never going to air it on TV, because Indian television is like that. All that is good in the television world is slowly but not subtly being replaced by crassness. More about this in the next paragraph. My plans now involve watching the rest of the series on YouTube and then moving on to the manga, just as I did with Bleach. Hopefully the lack of compulsion to come up with overly intense action scenes will give Hiro Mashima an advantage over Kubo Tite when it comes to satisfying fans. I have plans for at least two Fairy Tail fan fics right now. What prevents me from writing them is the fact that I have a million college essays to finish by the end of the month. But come on, delusions aren’t that bad, are they? I mean, I ranked 10 out of 330 people on the last test while heavily drunk on Fairy Tail. So ha, and three more ha’s to follow, and behold, a concrete fan fic writing schedule drops out of the sky. My muse refuses to return, though.
Now, on to the fact that Indian television is being taken over by utter garbage. Disney Channel is a classic example of how low-quality Indian products are preferred over high-quality foreign products. These supposedly funny shows wouldn’t pass for humor on the most liberal scale on the planet. Plotless, disgusting, crass Hindi shows like Shararat, Eashan (for crying out loud!!!), and others whose names I don’t remember are gradually replacing Disney Channel originals. Wizards of Waverly Place, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and the others have all been relegated to graveyard slots, and might soon be done away with entirely. The problem is that these crass shows go on for hours on end. You look at the program schedule on your satellite TV’s guide, and you see Eashan or Shararat starting at 3 p.m. and ending at 9. What kind of sick, self-hating, intelligence-loathing sociopath would want to put himself through that kind of torture? Well, congratulations Desi Disney Channel! Your incredible, unrivaled stupidity has lost you every intelligent viewer you have ever had.

My own favorite lines are either Shakespearean (which, considering how little of him I've read, might not be great), from War and Peace (I just looked through them, but they're not really inspiration material), from The Portrait of a Lady (I picked it up to reread it after a while, and enjoyed it much more than I did while getting through it the first time), and I think from Great Expectations as well (ditto, although I haven't finished it yet). I suppose these book need gaps between reading to keep up the interest -_- So I can't be of any help *sigh*
Reading Fairy Tail has crossed my mind several times when I'm up at night, but searching for a good site is really annoying, since mangastream doesn't work well on my ipod.
I avoid Disney like the plague now. There is nothing good on TV anymore! Even Nick is absolutely disgusting . Nothing like the things I used to watch on it in sixth grade.
Ah, it's all right. I'll probably get something out of Julius Caesar and pretend it's relevant to my life. I'll say I was inspired by the assasination scene. "Et tu Brute?" and all that... Who am I kidding? -_-...
inaruto seems a good manga site, although I'm not sure if it'll work on your iPod. Here's the Fairy Tail archive, just in case: http://www.inaruto.net/manga/fairy-tail/
I know, I was thinking about Nick today, and realized that NONE of the good, teen shows air anymore. It's only outdated stuff like Spongebob and offensive garbage like Ninja Hatori, Oggy and the Cockroaches. The debauched mongrels who run the channel in India deserve to be turned into rheostats whose sliding pieces perform SHM.
Speaking of which, the Physics practicals guy was stupider than usual today. He asked everyone what the Tangent Galvanometer setup's "circuit diagram" was (he meant the connections), and I didn't feel like answering because he wouldn't understand me anyway, and he became all vulgar in Telugu after a girl answered it partially correctly - vulgar at the boys, that is. In a dangerous world like this, he should really be more subtle about his misandry. Or someone might turn him into a tangent galvanometer and deflect him to an extereme position...
I've just realized that physics lab-related insults can be really colorful.
Hi ^^ I've been following your blog for a while, but I've never commented before. Have you by any chance Fullmetal Alchemist? It might be a nice break from Bleach ^^
Hi, I tried reading FMA once, but the artwork didn't appeal to me much.
Are you an author on FFn by any chance?
I used to be, but I don't really go there that much anymore ^^
Aww, that's too bad. I like the art style in the anime though (both versions). But if you ever try it, you might want to watch the Brotherhood one, since it's the one that follows the manga's plot ^^
Yeah, that's what he did to our batch as well. He's lame. LAME.
=DDD I know! The SHM thing cracked me up =P
I agree, the FMA artwork ain't the best. But I still think I'll pick up where I left off soon, when I find a good enough site. I'll try out inaruto on my ipod today..
iNaruto's probably what you get when Apple acquires Naruto. So I would think the site is compatible with your iPod. XD
On a different note, Sahiti told me about this website today: gutenberg.org. You can read classics online or download them onto your iPod (I don't know how to that) as you feel like it, for free. Think about how much money you could save, and how many of those un-formatted names on the BBC list you could turn to BOLD (Lame pun on "gold"). I'm thinking it's a nice summer idea.
I'm reading Othello right now. It's not as interesting as Hamlet but marginally more interesting than Macbeth. Sometimes you really admire Shakespeare for being able to make even the most mundane themes seem interesting... and at other times, you don't.
I just tried out inaruto. Oh, the beauty of reading continuously! The letters are all clear enough on the 'pod (XD) so YAY! =P
Oh my god. Seriously?? That sounds brilliant! Think of all the chemistry classes I could spend reading instead =D I was reading fan fiction in the second bench recently (the page hadn't tried to refresh since I opened it at home). He doesn't seem to notice/care =P
That's great. I'm actually hoping you'll like Fairy Tail, because it's always fun to talk to someone about your favorite manga.
No pressure. :P
No pressure, yes. XD I don't know if I should start reading something new now... I suppose it depends. How many chapters will I have to read to catch up?
Oh, yeah, I forgot... Our present situation and our commitments to commitments... Trust them to ruin anything potentially good. Too bad I hadn't considered any of that when I got addicted to Fairy Tail... or for that matter, Bleach. XD
I think the summer would be the ideal time to start on something new, if you're looking for uninterrupted and guilt-free reading. XD
Just for the record, FT has 214 chapters till date. Let's go geeky at this point. The rate of increase of chapters is 1 per week. Assuming your rate of reading is a consistent 2 chapters per day or 14 per week, by the time you catch up with the series, 230 chapters will have been published. So you would have to read fewer than or equal to 230 chapters to catch up with the series. :)
That's what Benny and her "you have to take care of all cases" can do to you... -_-;;;;
LOL! Gotta love Benny XD
Yeah, I think I'll start next summer. And add it to the HUGE list of 'next summer' stuff -_-
Indeed. :) But Benny scares me, because whenever she looks at me, I get the feeling that she's expecting a lot of me. I could be wrong, but I guess it has to do with her expression, which would make anyone she looks at feel as if she's disappointed in them for some reason. Kudos to Jenny for not being reduced to a pile of self-pity... I guess love really is blind. XD
Here's a corny one: Integral d-Love from Jenny to Benny represents the area under a heart...
Yeah, i totally get what you mean-- that look of hers has me ducking my head and staring at my book everytime she looks my way XD She's a bit scary, but I've always liked those kind of teachers =P
Jenny probably suffers from nervous breakdowns everytime he walks into our class and realizes that she was there. Then he runs away to his cheerleaders and calls his therapist XD
LOL corny indeed! I can imagine Jenny's eyes go all misty and unfocused when he hears of such a thing =P
Yeah, he probably feels like a lone, single, highly reactive proton that suddenly finds itself in close proximity to a Uranium ion that looked appealing from afar but is really too much for him to handle... -_-...
I'm back in Hyderabad, by the way. It takes a trip to Calcutta to make you realize how nice a city Hyderabad is. -_-'''
Jenny would probably go all Relativity on Benny. "If we reached the speed of light, we'd be all energy, so we could add ourselves like scalars and watch time go by at a snail's pace."
