the fastidious chronicler strikes again

Since it’s the Fastidious Chronicler’s duty to record facts in their unadulterated form, I can’t help but mention that I’m in Fremont right now, sitting in my uncle’s office, and drinking a Starbucks grande latte without sugar. Way to kill time. I’ve also somehow developed viral conjunctivitis. I last had it in 2008, and it lasted six months. I had hoped I wouldn’t have to experience it again; but apparently people with asthma are prone to it. I read that on Wikipedia, and I wish I hadn’t. There is nothing more annoying than that grainy feeling in your eyes that never leaves no matter how many times you wash them. And to experience that for six months at a stretch is nothing short of hell. Sometimes, I really wish someone would create artificial, antivirus eyeballs so that people like me could start believing in logic again. It doesn’t help that the ophthalmologist cheerfully told me that there is no cure for viral conjunctivitis, and that I would just have to wait until it’s cured.

I’ll be flying to Chicago on Sunday. I really look forward to seeing the Sears Tower, which is over three times as tall as the Space Needle. Height is one of those things that have little meaning in the wrong context. In Seattle, for instance, you would think that the Space Needle is a tall, majestic building that you can’t tear your eyes away from. But put the Space Needle next to the Sears Tower or Burj Dubai, and it’s dwarfed into obscurity. By the way, the Sears Tower is now called the Willis Tower. Sears vacated the building fifteen years ago (or something like that – I don’t want to visit the Wikipedia page right now), and recently lost their naming rights. I could never bring myself to call a building the “Willis” Tower – it’s wrong on multiple levels. Plus, it makes me want to puke. On Tuesday, I’ll be going down to Urbana to check out the University of Illinois campus.
