slow down!

It’s December already. The tragedy of how time flies when you wish the most that it would slow down a little and let you cherish the moment hits me harder now than it ever has before. My thoughts would best be expressed in poetry, but I have no illusions about being able to do justice to them – and I don’t think anyone famous has written good poetry on specifically this topic. (Except perhaps Eliot, but in Prufrock, the narrator’s painful awareness of his growing age and ugliness doesn’t go beyond the erotic.) As I’ve said to myself so many times, college life is so dreamlike – and ephemeral in the same way. It’s barely begun, but so much time has passed already. How long will it be until everything suddenly ends? It’s a scary thought. Attempting to relegate it to the hinterland of my mind would be futile, since my sanity hinges on the answer. What I would regret more than anything else at the end of my life (which draws nearer with every passing moment) would be to look back on everything and think, I haven’t done enough. There’s plenty of time until that happens, though – or is there?
