I just realized that one of the reasons why the Ryonan vs. Shohoku game pisses me off so much is that Shohoku seemed to just blow Ryonan away. Sure, Shohoku had their problems (Anzai's not being there, Akagi's brief lapse of focus, Mitsui's passing out, etc.), but it wasn't like the game against Shoyo, which looked as if it could go either way till the last second. Or for that matter both Shohoku's and Ryonan's games against Kainan. In a way I am glad that Inoue chose not to do what Titkubs does for his pet Ichigo all the time - videlicet (pisses linguists off every time), portraying the opponents as something superhuman. I like that he chose to explore Ryonan's troubles. Uozumi's being benched, Sendoh's struggle to singlehandedly lead the team and take on Rukawa simultaneously, etc. are all challenges that they eventually manage to overcome. But to what effect? Shohoku had been ten to fifteen points ahead of Ryonan throughout the second half. Putting salt into the wound is that lullabylike track they play whenever Shohoku makes another basket, and the camera (anime camera?) passes over the consternated faces of the Ryonan team, breeding, as T. S. Eliot would say, lilacs out of the dead land, mixing memory and desire. (The wonderful thing about The Waste Land is that you can quote almost any of those rich, finely composed lines it in almost any context, since Eliot himself admitted he had no idea what he was thinking when he wrote it.) The look of powerlessness on Coach Taoka's face was rather poignant. I'm not saying that Ryonan should have beaten Shohoku (much as I would have liked that): I'm saying that Ryonan should have lost less horribly. But there's no point in crying over milk that was spilt twenty years ago in a fictional universe. That would be like pretending to cry over milk that has been spilt in the real world.

Go get a PhD :) although working with young people is exactly that kind of thing that would give you a complex, it gets better through time. at least i think so. i myself plan to teach in a university once i get a master's degree. maybe it's because it's one of those things i wanna achieve just so to convince myself that life has some meaning left. lol, fucking emo here.
about people--well, you can't ever expect to get along with everyone. sometimes it just sucks that their mindsets are so apart from yours and to make matters worse most of them think the same. ever get that feeling sometimes? i hate it when my colleagues gush about tv soaps and other frivolities that make no sense. and then you can't just relate to them but they all can relate to one another. then and only then will you realize that shutting up is the best option. people on the internet are the worst. but then again the majority of my real-life friends and acquaintances transform into full-blown morons as soon as the sit behind their keyboards and monitors.
Yeah. In my case it's fellow CS majors who think they are experts on every subject and superior to people in other majors. I might have to interact more with them in the near future as a way of being "involved". I guess college students in general are like that. I wonder at what point in their lives they are violently disillusioned. Probably when they join the work force and feel like shit hahaha
Yeah, I think I will get a PhD =)
