bleach: hell's verse [spoilers abound]

It's been a while since I watched anything related to Bleach, and this movie was just the thing to watch after such a dry period (to use embarrassing phrases of questionable appropriateness). The concept was the best I've seen so far in a Bleach movie. Apparently Titkubs might have had a hand in the design of Hell, and there are rumors that this movie might even have been built on ideas that Titkubs wasn't able to incorporate into the canon. I suppose I was expecting the design of Hell to be based totally on Dante's conception of it, but it's just as well that it wasn't. That would have been cliched. While there are indeed levels in Hell, it is depicted more as a world in its own right, such as  the Soul Society or Hueco Mundo, than something that is an extension of another world. I particularly liked the Guardians of Hell or the Kushanards (I think I spelt it right). They were big, well drawn, and creepy. Ichigo did have his usual moments of overpoweredness, but they were strangely not cringeworthy. They even gave him a new form exclusive to Hell that allowed him to beat the antagonist. It's not connected to the canon in any way, because then Ichigo would explode from having too many forms, but it does provide a nice, all-lose-ends-tied interlude to the greater action without. It was even in some sense poetic. Because Hell. There is less captain action here in the previous movies, though toward the end Byakuya does ennoble the screen with his presence. It's worth watching, in any event.
