So college is over, as I've probably already mentioned. Final grades are out. They weren't as good as I had hoped, but it doesn't matter anymore. I am a little irritated that my operating systems professor still hasn't posted final exam scores. I thought I did well on the final. I did do well on the programming assignments, which makes me think that the only reason I got a B+ is the dumb participation grade. 10% for participation is not something that ought to be permitted after - I don't know - preschool. As for not posting final exam scores, I hope he knows that he doesn't have the right to decide for students that they don't want to know what they scored, now that final grades are out. All in all, one of the worst professors I've ever had. So bad that he doesn't even strike you as bad until you give yourself a few moments to take in the full horror of his incompetence.
The only class I got an A in was graphics. Three B+'s and one B. Oh well. College is over. Undergrad, at least. This is the lowest my undergraduate GPA will get. Hooray. Grad school is probably going to be excruciatingly hard, but at least Nicky is going to be there. That should be fun. It might even be like old times, if we allow ourselves to forget for a moment that we're adults now with adult responsibilities.
I don't really like thinking of myself as an adult. In some ways, at least. I like holding on to my young sardonic self, and the continuity that this blog provides makes it relatively easy to do so. I fear that, if I let go, my descent into neurosis will go unchecked.
I'm not a good driver. I only got my license last year, so I probably just need to drive more, but I can't help feeling that I shall never be a good driver, especially when I make elementary mistakes that, at a different time and place, could result in something ugly. It feels like learning a second language in adulthood. I don't quite enjoy driving as much as I think I would have, if I had started driving earlier.
Speaking of second languages, the early stages of Swedish seem a lot easier to pick up, as I realized when passing the time on DuoLingo, than the early stages of French. Not surprising, since English is a Germanic language, though admittedly without the intrinsic aesthetic appeal of other Germanic languages - or indeed any other language. You have to work hard to make English sound pleasant - a subjective opinion, if ever there was one, but one that is shared by almost anyone who has an opinion on the subject, native speaker or otherwise.
Sometimes I wish English were more difficult for non-native speakers to pick up. Not being xenophobic or anything (though I really fail to see the connection some people make between language and nationality). English is just a slutty language. Anybody can pick it up, sometimes even unintentionally - at least well enough to be intelligible, and without any practical need to improve beyond that. Easy things are not respected. Simplicity is stunning sometimes, but not in the case of the English language.
