the holy siddh gurus

That was the prayer we were forced to recite at the beginning of each FIITJEE day in Ascent, which was the name of the program in which hapless children with little in the way of free will were enrolled by parents desirous of enabling them to get into IIT or keeping them out of the house, as the case may be. In my case I suspect it was the latter. The prayer was so ridiculous that I'm surprised I've forgotten it, since I don't usually forget ridiculous things. The little I do remember (or misremember) went:

I request all the Holy Siddh Gurus
And all the Holy Siddh Masters
To please guide me,
Protect me,
Bless me,
And show me the path to enlightenment.

There was a second verse that started off:

I request all the Holy Siddh Masters
And all the Holy Siddh Gurus...

... flipping the "masters" and the "gurus" in such a way as to make it seem vaguely poetic, and to make it appear a fine poem that was found scrawled by early men on a cave wall in a more pious age instead of something that unpaid FIITJEE peons were forced to write in an afternoon.

For many months - i.e., until a sheet of paper was passed around with the actual text of the prayer, probably because the Holy FIITJEE Teachers were beginning to suspect that most students were not reciting it - I was under the impression that we were praying to the Holy Sith Gurus, and was totally fine with that. Only when I beheld the prayer in written form did I realize that it was not the Sith Gurus to whom we had been praying for success and whatnot, but the Siddh Gurus.

What on earth is a Siddh Guru?
