The portentous flashback, the flashback before the storm. I wasn't expecting Hashbrowns to be such a loser in his youth. That makes Bazz-B's resentment toward him pretty deep. Bazz was the genius, the guy with the skills, whereas Hashbrowns was just pusillanimous, epicene, and the guy who may have been tiddled by his uncle (or at the very least physically abused). Yet when Juha Bach (I'd rather stick with this spelling, which makes sense, than the official spelling, which doesn't, and is a pain to remember) rode up on his big brown steed (which for some reason was unaffected by his reiatsu), he chose Hashbrowns (who also, incidentally, appeared unaffected by J. B.'s reiatsu) as his other half. I imagine Bazz would have been quite consternated at this. Also what the fuck is up with Hashbrowns acquiring J. B.'s powers by night? That seems a bit lame for an almighty being. Anyway, there is obviously no hope for Bazz to prevail against his erstwhile protege, and the purpose of the flashback was probably to infuse him with a little more character so that his inevitable death appears sadder.
There's is also a recurring realization that KUBO NEVER FORGETS whenever seemingly insignificant faces pop up hundreds of chapters later. In this chapter it was J. B.'s two escorts or whatever, who were last seen when Yamamoto brought them back from the dead with his Bankai. I must hand it to Kubo. It takes an awful lot of willpower not to say, "SEE, I NEVER FORGET!" Especially when it's likely that more than half the readers (myself included) were probably not even aware of Kubo's extraordinary feats of memory.
Oh, and as for the setting of Bazz-B's flashback, it appears as if most of the Quincies are over a thousand years old, since J. B. was something like 200 back then. He slumbered for 999 years or something before the present arc, so J. B.'s around 1,200 years old. Weren't Quincies supposed to be regular humans with powers? Or has that changed since J. B. was revealed to be the source of all the Quincies' powers?
