what is day anymore?

We submitted the OS project last night literally a minute from the deadline. I was too attenuate from having stayed up forty-two straight hours, fueled solely be coffee and inertia, to fully grasp the magnitude of what we had accomplished. That sounded cheesy. But Garp somehow proved his worth by studying up and contributing to this project. It was awfully thoughtful of him to carry his weight for a change. But maybe I'm being ungenerous. Or maybe not, considering that little twerp just added me on Facebook. The concept of boundaries is just something he doesn't get. No doubt he gets this trait from his parents, or they would have thought twice before bringing him into this world. The aftermath of that all-nighter included my getting up at 4 PM this "morning", and I just knew that a day that began in such a fashion couldn't possibly be other than unproductive. And - surprise, surprise - it wasn't. I've been binge-watching Daredevil for the better part of the day - or what was left of it.

Daredevil Season 2 is pretty engaging. One finds it impossible to tear one's eyes from the screen. But I've found Matt Murdock pretty insufferable this season. I can't remember if I felt that way in the first season, but I really relished the times when he was getting his ass handed to him by people who didn't have delusions of being unimpeachable. It's one thing to be against killing people - even bad guys. I don't think a murderous streak is a quality anyone would want to see in a hero. But his intransigent views on killing become rather ludicrous from time to time - especially considering he has no compunction about beating people to within an inch of their lives. It's difficult to estimate how many deaths he was directly responsible for because of the lengths he would go to to stop someone from killing a bad guy when it would have mattered most. It's usually the people closest to him who find themselves the undeserving victims of his moral uprightness. Karen and Foggy are honestly too good for that sententious prick. He's a first-rate narcissist, too. Tears roll down his face whenever he tells people how important he is to the city. That kind of narcissism is rare in a human being, much less a hero. Sometimes I wish people would just give him what he deserves: nothing. Maybe Stick could live up to his name and just stick him. For someone who takes such pleasure in lecturing others about the finer points of ethics, he certainly has no problem taking what he wants - using people for his own benefit. Maybe he needs to be made to realize that he can't afford happiness. It's the price he must pay for being a hero, and certainly a most fitting reward for his services.

Don't get me wrong: I think Daredevil is still awesome. It's just that he could maybe turn a blind eye from time to time when people who aren't afraid to deliver justice do what's necessary. I can't imagine he doesn't feel a little ridiculous saying things like, "Don't kill him! Let's hand him over to the police so that he can rot in a jail cell like he deserves. That'll learn him!" It begins to grate after a while when the personages he speaks of start killing everyone he knows and loves right before his very eyes. Or other spidey senses. The Punisher was really awesome this season. So were Elektra and Stick.
