Once again the country has been thrown into consternation after an election. The thing that everyone thought impossible has come to pass. Donald J. Trump has been elected the 45th president of the United States. Not only that, the Republicans have won the House and the Senate as well, are the majority in most states, and will no doubt have a Republican Supreme Court on their hands in the very near future. The only silver lining in all this is that $hillary Clinton's ambitions of being President have evaporated. The Presidency is not something that you can earn just by desiring it, like a Big Mac or an intern in the Oval Office, and $hillary Clinton has that to reflect on as she lives out her life post-politics with fitting obscurity. People who are trying to gather signatures to compel the electoral college to grant the presidency to $hillary need to suck it up. This is how things stand. All we can do moving forward is to ensure that such a mistake not happen again. Democrats who have historically enjoyed staying at home during the midterm elections need to put their video games on pause and fulfill their democratic duty, or else forfeit the right the complain afterwards when things go horrendously badly, as they have this time. One can hope that the decisive victory that the Republicans have enjoyed in this election in all branches of government will allow them to be gracious victors - that maybe the security of power will no longer make it necessary for them to act insane and pander to their base, and we can expect a levelheaded four years from them. Needless to say, Barack Obama will be sorely missed once his term comes to an end. He would be the last great President for a long time to come, regardless of who won this election.
