Jesus Christ, Air Canada

One agent for four different lines? The time between bag drops is literally 20 minutes. We know you want to cut costs by laying off everyone, like every company in the world. Let us drop our own bags off, I beg you. All we have to do is scan something and put the bag on the fucking belt. People in this day and age who don’t check in online or on the app and spend a quarter of an hour making small talk with the agent — who, by the way, could stand to be more competent — are the scourge of this earth.

Older gay French-Canadian couple, furious about the wait, cut in line in front of a gentleman who had been standing patiently in the priority check-in line longer than than they had been. Gents, I appreciate you’re incensed. We all are. The family standing 100th in line in the economy check-in line are. I know I just called people who don’t check in online the scourge of the earth, but having neglected to do so, they are still entitled to the same fair treatment as anyone else is. We can’t forget ourselves and throw the rules out the window. A society without order is not a society at all.

Now the patient gentleman appears to be having trouble with his ticket. The Air Canada agent, who had seemed meek and passive earlier, was livid up close, as she rightfully should be. Finally a grandma looking agent hobbles over and tries to boot up another computer. Our heroine bitches like cray to the grandma. Apparently there are 4 agents somewhere else and only 1 agent here. When I finally checked my bag in, grandma scanned the signs above the check-in counters and said incredulously, “Why does it say ‘Bag Drop’? We don’t do bag drop anymore.”

After that I had to endure a long but steadily moving TSA Precheck line. And now I’m standing in line at Peet’s coffee, because I didn’t drink coffee in the morning. My memoirs, in which this entry will certainly appear, will be called From Line to Line.
