Went skiing yesterday with a couple teammates in the middle of a winter storm warning. The highway resembled a backcountry snowmobile trail. I had made an executive decision to go despite the storm, since the resort was on the very edge of the area covered by the warning. There were a few sketchy moments, but fortunately we made it without incident. I did better than I’d done a couple weeks before with the same teammates. This time I could do green runs with something resembling sanguinity. I even attempted an entry-level blue a couple times. A few times I fell. One of those times I couldn’t get one of my skis on because it kept sliding down the hill and the binding had gotten jammed. An Australian gentleman with a beard offered to help me, and he prostrated himself on the snow and took my boot in his hand, which made me feel a bit like Cinderella (which I told him, to which he said nothing), and guided it into the binding. Away I went, after thanking the gentleman. Can’t remember if I wiped out again on that run. But boy am I sore. I had to skip work today because of a dehydration headache, despite making sure to stay hydrated the whole time with liquid IV. I now feel ready for next weekend’s two-day ski trip with the team, plus J. I just have to make sure I lay off the Chinese liquor one of my teammates is wont to bring to these things, which ruined half the trip for me on a similar ski weekend last year.
