It looks like papal transitions continue to be undefeated in predicting Seahawks Super Bowl appearances. Not to attach too much importance to superstition, but it was rather gratifying to hear the new All-American Pope declare the full force of Providence to be behind the Seahawks’s victory this year. Now the team is up for sale—supposedly a stipulation of the late Paul Allen’s will. If the new owners so much as think about relocating the Hawks, there will be an uprising like no other. The erosion of our rights, institutions, and Democracy itself could never stir the hearts of Seattleites into action the way a threat to our beloved sports team could—is what I would like to say, but we have a past we must reckon with. If only the team could become community owned the way the Packers are.
